Kanye West and Friends Took the Stage at the Chicago Theatre to Combat the Nation’s High School Dropout Rates
Kanye West joined by his celebrity friends in Chicago as he continues his mother's legacy through the Kanye West Foundation with the 2nd Stay in School Benefit Concert. This is the first Foundation event since his mother's passing and is unprecedented in size and scope as the Foundation partners with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Fuse TV and S.H.O.W (Students Helping Our World). Kanye performed at the Chicago Theatre on Thursday, June 11th - twice in one day - in typical grand fashion while underscoring the importance of student retention and graduation in the nation's high schools. The day of events commenced with a press conference, followed by a free show for kids from 6 area schools who have improved their grades and concluding with a benefit reception and concert.
In attendance at the press conference were Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley, CEO of Chicago Public Schools Ron Huberman, Executive Director Joseph Collins of the Kanye West Foundation, and Highland Park High School sophomore David Abrams
The nights event started out with a red carpet roll out featuring Michelle Williams (Destiny Child), Raven Simone, Yusuf Malik, Drew Sidora, athletes and other celebrities.
